Levi Jackson has only one love in his life, his daughter, until one day everything he thought he didn’t need or want comes crashing into his life in the form of Emerson Reese and he doesn’t want to fight it. Emerson is content with her life, she’s super busy and doesn’t have time for love, but when Levi and Lily come rushing into her life she grabs hold with both hands. What neither can expect or prepare for are the dark times ahead. Can they overcome them or is their happily ever after going to be short-lived?

Let me start by saying that I loved Heather Lyn’s Hearts on Fire series it has everything a romance reader could want; swoon-worthy heroes, feisty women, a little angst, charm, and beautiful love stories. Fighting for Us is better! Sure, it has all the aforementioned components, but it also has something more. This book was special. Heather crafts a world in which you want to live. You want to be friends with these characters and spend time with them. She hits you with all the emotions and feels. This book deals with some difficult situations and I felt the PTSD aspect was handled with sensitivity and care. I read it in one sitting once I started I just didn’t want to leave these characters. This cover is brilliant. I love it. It is beautiful, the lilies in the background are a wonderful addition that I didn’t notice at first glance but work perfectly with the story. I like that it’s understated and draws the reader in. This book shows the growth in Heather’s writing and I cannot wait to see what she does next because if she keeps on this path she is going to be unstoppable.

These characters are fantastic, I love them so much. Levi is everything you could want in a book boyfriend. He is sweet and charming, smart and funny. He knows what he wants and loves deeply. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep the people he loves safe. He isn’t afraid to show his feelings. He is such a sweet daddy and the sort of father every little girl needs. Emerson is fantastic, I loved her so so much. I’m usually quite picky about the female leads and it takes time for me to warm to them but not Emmy, from the get-go I just adored her. She was the perfect match for Levi. She was funny and sweet, smart and feisty. She was a fighter, in that she fought for what she wanted and wouldn’t let go. I adored her strength. She’s the type of girl we all want to be friends with. Lily was the sweetest little girl ever. We see some support characters that will eventually have their own books (it’s called The Jackson Trilogy, so it kinda gives it away, right?). It gave little glimpses into Caden and Sydney that left me wanting to know more. Ok, so I’m partial to Cade, he’s just so dreamy. Seriously, I was swooning. Syd seems totally awesome too. Can. Not. Wait!

The relationship between Levi, Emmy and Lily is fast, and it works. Sometimes insta-lust/love doesn’t, but for this story it is perfect. The slow burn wasn’t necessary as they met and had an instant connection. I loved the inclusion of Lily in almost everything, she was such an integral part of their relationship, it was like Emmy was made to be her mummy which was sweet and heart-warming. The chemistry between Levi and Emmy was jumping off the page and kept me glued to their story. The sexy times were scorching and will leave you swooning and reaching for a fan. (Is it hot in here?) Each scene made sense to the story and felt like it earned its place, none of it felt like filler, which I was very happy about. Their relationship wasn’t without its trials and angst. It was emotional and beautiful.

Side-note: The book contains some man on woman violence that may be difficult to read. I will say that I don’t like reading about it, however, I didn’t struggle with this book because it was necessary to the story and what comes after.
