It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two.
It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires...and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire.
My name is Greer Galloway, and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States.
This is the story of an American Queen.

I've been many things.
I've been a son and a stepbrother. An army captain and a vice president.
But only with him am I a prince. His little prince.
Only with Maxen and Greer does my world make sense, only between them can I find peace from the demons that haunt me. But men like me aren't made to be happy. We don't deserve it. And I should have known a love as sharp as ours could cut both ways.
My name is Embry Moore, and I serve at the pleasure of the president of the United States...for now.
This is the story of an American prince.
Contains mature themes.

They say that every tragic hero has a fatal flaw, a secret sin, a tiny stitch sewn into his future since birth. And here I am. My sins are no longer secret. My flaws have never been more fatal. And I’ve never been closer to tragedy than I am now. I am a man who loves, a man whose love demands much in return. I am a king, a king who was foolish enough to build a kingdom on the bones of the past. I am a husband and a lover and a soldier and a father and a president.
And I will survive this. Long live the king.

I originally set out to review each book separately, however the books are so closely entwinned, it’s a trilogy after all, that I thought it might be better to review the trilogy as a whole. Keep it spoiler free here on the blog and if you want the individual reviews they’re up on goodreads and audible.
I have to start with a confession. I don’t do hype. If something is hyped up, I generally wait, sometimes years. If I see an author shouting about a book, again, I generally stay away. So many times I’ve found out that they haven’t really read the book that they’re just cross promoting in the hopes of getting the same in return. So, yeah, I just go about my merry business. However, two authors have been shouting loud about these books and the things they’ve said made me believe them, the reactions seemed genuine. It was incredibly entertaining to watch it unfold. I already had American Queen and American Prince on my audible app, I’ve listened to a couple of books by Sierra Simone already, so I was sure I’d get a quality book, I just wasn’t buying into the hype for this trilogy. *insert face palm emoticon here* If you’re on the fence about it, jump off, you won’t be sorry. This trilogy is amazing, so much that I couldn’t wait for the last instalment, American King to be released on audio, I actually read it… with my eyes *gasp*
Sierra Simone is a queen among princesses. She grabs the reader/ listener by any means necessary and pulls them into this world and won’t let them go. Her writing is captivating and enthralling. It will leave you shouting at your device, at characters and situations. It will leave you swooning, happy and heartbroken. She will put you and these characters through hell and you’ll thank her for it. She will make you hate characters and she’ll make you happy about it, you’ll love to hate them. And then, she’ll make you pity them. WTF? That is not how it’s supposed to go, but it’ll happen anyway. Anything you expect will be questioned. I figured out key parts pretty quickly, and then just when it was about to play out exactly how I imagined Sierra would do something out of left field to change it up again. I love how Sierra doesn’t apologize for including anything in the books, it’s part of the story for a reason and she doesn’t speak down to her readers, she treats them as intelligent people, because they are.
Each book shifts timeline wise between then and now. It works really well and is easy to follow. The POV of each book is different. American Queen is told from Greer’s POV. American Prince is told from both Embry and Greer’s POV. American King is told from Ash, Greer and Embry’s POV. It really helps to see these different scenes from other points of view, especially the mindset of the characters, I liked that a scene from AQ was revisited in AK from a different perspective and although we knew what happened, it felt new. The characters in this trilogy are some of my favourites, ever. I adored Greer, Embry and Ash. They come as one, I never felt that one was more likable than another, they came together. They frustrated my separately though. I’d be mad at Ash and then find out it was Embry, so I’d be mad at him, and then it would change again. Abilene, I disliked from the get go, she just seemed like such a horrible person. I swayed from liking Morgan to disliking her and back again, the same with Merlin. It was like I wanted to dislike them but then they’d do something, and I’d be smiling. I spent so much time messaging people that had already read the books to vent my frustration or happiness, and heartbreak. Reading back through the messages is quite entertaining and my language was foul lol.
The progression of this story is perfection, I don’t think anything could have been done differently. Their story is an epic romance that spans years, it is both sad and beautiful what they endure and how long it takes for them to truly get their happily ever after. There were times when my husband found me sobbing in the kitchen, and wondering if I’d lost my mind, to him, it doesn’t make sense that a person would put themselves through the agony of reading something that upset them but then in the next moment I had the biggest smile on my face. And the sex scenes, oh my word! They are scorching, Sierra knows how to write a smoking hot sex scene and that shines through in these books. You won’t want to be reading them in a public place, hot under the collar is an understatement.
This trilogy touches on so many different situations, some not as happy as others, some were a little difficult to listen to/ read, however they have a purpose and make sense to the story, the character and what they’re going through, so it made it easier to accept. Sierra does a wonderful job of incorporating serious issues that affect people today into these books, but it is by no means preachy. It also contains some BDSM and the scenes are done incredibly well, giving you the thought process along with the action. It added another element to the story that gave it deeper meaning and respect for a lifestyle.
American Queen and American Prince are both available on audio and that’s how I experienced them. The narrators were fantastic, they truly brought these characters to another level, bringing the emotion with it. Stephanie Rose who did both books was wonderful and I look forward to listening to more of her work. Guy Locke who did AP was great too, I loved how he performed Embry. Both Stephanie and Guy performed these different characters with conviction, making each one distinct and changing their voices subtly to empathise different emotions. The production on both audiobooks was great with no issues.
I know this doesn’t really tell you much about the books themselves, but to be honest, they’re something special that needs to be experienced for themselves. Please just sit back and enjoy, get the chocolate, alcohol and Kleenex ready and feel free to message me your frustrations while reading, I had people to turn to, and you’ll need someone too.
Side-note: If you don’t believe a heart is big enough to love more than one person and don’t believe the message of love is love, this is not the book for you. Some scenes may be difficult to read, if you have any set triggers please give me a shout and I’ll help you with details. Know that each scene has a purpose.
